 Bass players provide

The solid body bass guitars often get a real pounding in a performance
situation (ther is something a little extreme about a bass player) but the
bass is also played in a more soulful manner. A bass guitar has
the capacity to detect the lightest touch and generate sounds that are
deeply rich in tone.

driving force and 'tightness' are required.
